Oakley Utd 1 - 1 Greenock Juniors
Scottish Cup 3rd rnd

Greenock Goalscorer andy Monaghan
Greenock travelled through to Oakley to face the East Premier side in this 3rd round tie. Greenock started off the brighter and a Graham Black effort a minute into the game flashed across the face of the Oakley goal. Greenock were pushing forward and causing the home side problem. Alan Barnes was unlucky not to get his name on the score sheet when he met a cross from the right hand side only to see it graze the top of the bar and over to safety. The pressing from Greenock's front 3 of Dow, McIntyre and Monaghan prevented Oakley from getting a foothold in the game and it was there pressing that presented the opportunity for the opener. A free kick was awarded 22 yards from goal and Monaghan stepped up to send his Powerful effort low into the keepers bottom left hand corner much to the delight of the Greenock sidelines. After this goal Oakley started to press more and their left midfielder was testing Black out wide. Greenock could have doubled there lead when Dow won through 2 tough challenges only to send his left foot effort wide of the keepers right hand post. Oakley managed to square the game before half time when a cross found the right found the Oakley No. 9 his effort went to the back post where it was met by the onrushing left midfielder who had the easiest of task to knock home from 3 yards out.
Half-time 1 - 1
Greenock started the second half as they done in the first by going at the hosts and Black looked lively down the right and it was 2 of his crosses that caused early concern for the home team. The first was just out of reach for McIntyre as he flew at it. The second was closer as McIntyre right foot effort from 10 yards crashed against the bar. After the opening stages Oakley started to come into the game again and Stark in the Greenock goal was equal to anything they could throw at him. The Greenock defence was under pressure in spells but always looked comfortable, while on the break it looked promising as Monaghan and Blacks pace was always a good outlet whilst Dow and McIntyre were always making life difficult for the home defence. Gordon Lappin had a wonderful volleyed effort sail wide late on but most of the late pressure came from the home side but the Greenock boys stood up to it well and can now look forward to the replay back at Ravenscraig.
